Our statue "Virgil" is celebrating Easter a little early this year. Liturgically he should still be draped in purple cloth until Holy Saturday this week.
Virgil was a wedding present from one of Jon's roommates and another friend. We have painted him different colors over the years, but he has faithfully adorned our home for 41 years of marriage.
Lately I have taken to dressing him for the season. When the weather was in the 60's a few weeks ago he wore sunglasses. During winter it was ear muffs and a muffler or a stocking cap. At Christmas he dons his Santa hat. He wore a mask at Halloween. Most of the summer he sports a laurel of ivy like a Greek Olympic marathoner. He has worn a red, white and blue bandana over patriotic holidays. Virgil is also a good place to park Jon's "Indiana Jones" fedora. (We don't have a whip to add as a prop.)
When our daughter Mary was here Saturday he spotted him and chided me to post his picture on the blog. Guessed I missed lots of opportunities, but look forward to catching him decked out in his latest garb in months ahead.
